Mission Blitz T-shirts can be picked up at the church Thursday until 4:00 p.m. or Friday until 12:00 p.m. or Saturday at the Mission Blitz Send-off at the park at 7:45 a.m. 

With summer upon us (hopefully), many of you will be involved in outdoor activities and sports. If you have been a couch potato all winter and spring, you need to get your body ready before you dive into something in which you will use muscles that aren’t ready for the stress that summer activities will put on them.

We have had enough players to play a few games, but we need more. Most of us have reached that age where we need to rest so more players would mean more games. I know there are folks out there who are planning to start playing because you have told me so.

This year, FUMC will host the first annual Music and Worship Arts Camp June 11th – 15th. This camp will be for rising 3rd – 6th graders and will take place from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. This is an exciting time to come to music camp!

Mark your calendars for April 29th. Whether your class has a 5th Sunday Social, Breakfast, or your normal Sunday School schedule, come hungry and ready for a tasty Sausage Biscuit to support our Tanzanian Mission team.

DaySpring will continue our regular schedule through the end of May. We will go to our summer schedule in June. Summer schedule will be sent out within the next couple weeks.

Several people have asked me about playing badminton or pickleball. There will be a meeting next Monday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center TV/ Couch Room to make plans to start playing on either Monday or Wednesday afternoons.

It is time to call the church and reserve a date to place flowers in the Sanctuary! This year, the church will place your flower order for you.

The Chamber Choir of Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi will be in concert Thursday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m. in our sanctuary. Please mark your calendars for what promises to be a wonderful evening of music.

This Sunday, March 25, we will have an Easter egg hunt for children nursery - 6th grade. The hunt will be during the Sunday School hour, 9 a.m..

Starting this week, the lower parking lot will be blocked off. We are in the process of getting a new roof on the Education Wing. The lower parking lot will be blocked off next week also. 

Methodist Monday Meals’ Quarterly Meeting will be Monday, April 2 at 10:30 a.m. in the conference room.

Be a part of making recycling more convenient in Dyer County. Come to a meeting of Dyer County Recycles on March 27, Tuesday, at the Professional Development Center, 305 College St., Dyersburg, TN at 7:00 pm. Please enter through the door to the left.

As you know, the United Methodist Church uses color to mark important events in the life of the church. At a recent meeting of the Worship Team, it was suggested that it might be helpful and meaningful to have a reminder of the significance of the different colors we use.

Mark your calendars for March 21st Salt & Light! Our speaker will be Daphne Moses. She is an Associate Pastor at Northside Methodist Church in Jackson. She has been to Tanzania many times over the last few years to work with our missionaries Eric and Liz Soard. During Salt and Light, Daphne will share some of her experiences from working in Tanzania.

It is time to order your Easter Lilies! Each lily will cost $20. If you are purchasing more than one lily in honor of or in memory of someone, please use a separate order form for each lily. On Easter morning the Flowering Cross will bloom with flowers. Please bring fresh cut flowers or fresh cut bouquets from the store on Sunday, April 1, for the Flowering Cross.

While you are looking forward to the warm days of summer and making plans for your children’s activities, don’t forget our United Methodist camp, Lakeshore. Lakeshore is for kids from seven-years-old through Senior High School. There are also specialty camps. For years, Dyersburg FUMC has encouraged our kids to attend Lakeshore by paying $100 toward the camp fee.

The Upward season ended with our last games last week and our celebration on Sunday afternoon. All the teams and coaches were recognized, and then we were entertained by “Gutsy, the Flying Fox.” Gutsy did flips while dunking baskets and all sorts of incredible feats. While Gutsy was changing his costume, his wife reminded us what Upward is all about.

Thanks to your generosity, 191 bags of food were given to households in need in 2017. Please continue to watch “The Word” for food items that are needed. In addition to placing food items in bins located around the church, monetary contributions to the “Food Pantry Fund” allow for the purchase of food items to keep the Food Pantry well-stocked.

This year our Upward Celebration will be on Sunday, February 18th at 2:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center. The entertainment will be provided by Gusty the Flying Fox. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Our Communion Offering this Sunday will support Operation 20/20. Based at Emmanuel UMC the volunteers take our old glasses and sunglasses, clean, repair, and grade them so they can be sent out with international mission teams. Then the miracles happen.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Rust College A Cappella Choir performance on Saturday, January 27, has been canceled.

Sunday the Tanzanian Mission Team will sell Sausage and Biscuits in the Fellowship Hall before Sunday School. All proceeds from the Sausage and Biscuit Breakfast will go towards sending FUMC's Mission Team to Tanzania in July.


Start date has been moved to January 31st.

When Salt and Light resumes, we will have a new way of collecting money for the meal. We will have a flat rate of $5 for the main meal and a flat rate of $1 for pizza.

Called Charge Conference for Candidacy of John Andrew Fisher and Dakota Hill... Please join us for a special Called Charge Conference on February 12, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Our FUMC Charge Conference will discuss and affirm our Staff-Parish Committee’s recommendation’s of John Andrew Fisher and Dakota Hill as a Candidate for Ministry in the United Methodist Church.

The Prayer Quilt Ministry will meet Wednesday, January 17 at 9 a.m. 

For 2018-2019 School Year Registration for church members will begin January 16. Registration for currently enrolled students begins on January 22.

The Dyersburg/Dyer County Unit of the Salvation Army so appreciates the members of Dyersburg First United Methodist Church who gave their time and energy to ring the bell at Kroger the weekends before Christmas. The Red Kettle drive is the primary fundraiser for the year.

We will not have Sunday School this Sunday, January 14, due to the lack of heat in parts of the church building.
