    Why Upward Sports?

    • We believe the Bible to be the inspired, authoritative, Word of God.
    • We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons – the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
    • We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
    • We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
    • We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
    • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of eternal punishment.
    • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Frequently Asked Questions

The information below is designed to help you in the decisions you make regarding joining us this season for Upward Basketball & Cheer.

    • Each team will practice once throughout the week, unless otherwise scheduled with the Coach and Upward Director.
Practices run for 4 weeks, then we pause for Thanksgiving week. Followed by 3 more weeks of practice before Christmas week. Practices will resume the last week of December as the first game is the FIRST Saturday of January.

We will have 9 regular season games through out January, February, and March (first Saturday only). Games are only on Saturday Mornings.

If the coaches would like to, we can run a couple scrimmage matches before the end of December.

    • Practices and Games will be held in the Family Life Center for First United Methodist Church Dyersburg.

The Physical address of our FLC is:
      425 Elm Street

      Dyersburg, TN 38024

    • Yes, we offer Cheerleading for girls and boys during the basketball season.

      Season Celebration

      March 01, 2025   |   3:00pm, Family Life Center

    • Evaluations/Orientation always take place here at the Family Life Center(425 Elm St.) of FUMC Dyersburg (100 McGaughey Street). Here you will confirm registration, try on tester uniforms, and then enjoy the evaluation skills and drills. The skills and drills for basketball will be inside the Family Life Center. Cheerleaders do not need to attend Evaluations.

    • Yes, provided that you complete the necessary steps including passing a criminal background check and attending mandatory coach training (and, of course, based upon availability). We’d love to have you join in! You can sign-up to coach here.

    • Please contact Tori Armstrong, Upward League Director, as each situation is handled on a case-by-case basis. We do have scholarships available and scholarship guidelines, but please contact Tori at 731-285-6454 to discuss details.

    • We would prefer you to not request it. We use the evaluation scores to balance the teams so one team is not overpowering the others in the division. We believe this promotes the balancing of teams and also kids making new friends. Lots of friends are the same ages, already, and thus will be in the same age division, playing each other weekly.

    • If your children are in the same age division (K5, 1st&2nd, and 3rd-5th), they will automatically be placed on the same team. There is no need to request it. Otherwise, they will be placed on different teams in the appropriate division.

    • Each child will attend a mandatory evaluation/orientation week (See Key Dates Above) where basketball players will be guided through a few skills and drills to help identify each child’s skill level. These evaluations, held at our Family Life Center, are designed to create balanced teams and give each player an opportunity to improve their basketball skills.

Teams will be made through the Upward online system based on scores and ages. Cheerleaders will be on one squad!
