  • PReschool Teacher Assitant

    Position: Preschool Teacher Assistant
    Responsible to: Preschool Director
    Work Assignment: To be assigned by the Director.


    Qualifications:

    Be 18 years or older, have a minimum of a high school diploma, and be physically and emotionally able to perform the job as care giver of young children.


    Daily Duties:
    1. Help in the classroom as requested by assigned teacher.
    2. Responsible for using childcare software for attendance and communications, and following policies and schedules as outlined.
    3. Responsible for preparing snacks, setting out juice to thaw, washing and setting snack table, and washing tables and dishes/clean up after snack.
    4. Responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of the children in his/her assigned group.
    5. Positively guide and discipline as developmentally appropriate and in keeping with the school’s policy on discipline
    6. Arrive in the classroom 10 minutes before the start of the school day to help prepare the classroom for the day. The classroom should be ready before the children arrive.
    7. Unload children from vehicles starting at 8:05 am.
    8. Be nurturing, dependable, self-confident, and have a sense of humor. Have an enthusiasm about teaching, a desire to grow and learn, and an ability to evaluate oneself.
    9. Help supervise children on the playground.
    10. Assist with classroom clean up at the end of the day by stocking and returning all supplies/materials to their proper place, sweeping floors, washing/sanitizing surfaces, put chairs on tables, and taking trash to dumpster outside.
    11. Help teacher in preparing materials for the classroom.
    12. Help prepare children for departure.
    13. Fill in teacher position should a teacher be absent. In this event an assistant will receive teacher pay for that day.
    14. Maintain tablet and accessories in the classroom, and charge as needed.
    15. Maintain a professional conduct and appearance.


    Periodic Duties:
    1. Attend all staff meetings as scheduled by the Director.
    2. May be expected to complete other duties assigned by the Director.
    3. Act as a substitute for a teacher if needed.
    4. Fulfill the requirements of 18 hours of training/year via approved training providers.
    5. Obtain an updated CPR certification bi-yearly.

  • Children's ministry Assistant

    Job Title: Children’s Ministry Assistant

    Reports to: Children’s Ministry Director

    Status: Exempt


    Classification: Part Time (3-5 hours per week): Typical hours will be Sunday mornings from 8:45 – 11:45am. There will also be opportunities throughout the year to serve during Sunday/Wednesday evening programming, as well as special church events and services. Our children’s director will notify the team when the need for additional support arises.


    Summary of the Position: The Children’s Ministry Assistant provides dependable, safe, secure, and loving care and support to our children’s ministry and nursery primarily on Sunday mornings during worship and Sunday school.


    Requirements:

    • Must be 18 years old.
    • Must complete our Safe Sanctuary training and pass a background check.
    • Must have experience caring for children with the ability to interact with a variety of personalities.

    Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

    • Provide age-appropriate care which may include feeding, changing diapers, escorting children to the bathroom, maintain a safe environment, holding or sitting with and cheerfully interacting with children through games, stories, play and prayer.
    • Interact with all children, parents, and staff politely and courteously, seeking to develop trusting relationships.
    • Setting up and cleaning up children’s ministry rooms.

    Job Title: Director of Youth Ministry
    Reports to: Senior Pastor
    Classification: Full-Time (Part-time can be negotiated)
    Summary of the position: 

    • The Director of Youth Ministry at Dyersburg First United Methodist Church directs, operates, and coordinates the youth ministry of the church, which seeks to
    • Facilitate the faith development of students in grades seven through twelve.
    • Grow and sustain a youth ministry that fulfills the church’s mission to know, love, share, and serve Christ.
    • Align the youth ministry with the mission, vision and values of Dyersburg FUMC
    • Mentorship with Pastor Steve (15 years of youth min experience)

    Education Requirements:

    • A bachelor’s degree is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 
    • United Methodist Membership preferred but not required.
    • Seminary students are encouraged to apply.

    Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

    • Increase and promote spiritual development among the youth. This includes teaching the
    • Wesleyan theology, helping the youth develop and articulate their own faith, and providing
    • spiritual guidance.
    • Assume leadership qualities which will lead to development and growth within the youth
    • ministry. This includes planning, promoting, and if necessary, raising funds for all youth events.
    • Be a visible youth leader in the community by creating an invitational culture with youth in the community. 
    • Plan and lead outreach, ministry and service events such as extracurricular activities
    • for youth, school events, and mission events within the church and community.
    • Encourage volunteer development by recruiting and preparing volunteers to help with youth
    • programming such as bible studies and small group discussions, as well as developing a youth council.
    • Assume administrative responsibilities associated with the requirements of this job, such as: 1) Creating, setting, and tracking benchmarks and goals for the youth program. 2) Participating in the annual budgeting process. 3) Remitting invoices and reimbursement requests in a timely manner. 4) Participation in FUMC social media platforms to help promote and grow the youth program.
