Thanks to your generosity, 191 bags of food were given to households in need in 2017. Please continue to watch “The Word” for food items that are needed. In addition to placing food items in bins located around the church, monetary contributions to the “Food Pantry Fund” allow for the purchase of food items to keep the Food Pantry well-stocked.

This year our Upward Celebration will be on Sunday, February 18th at 2:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center. The entertainment will be provided by Gusty the Flying Fox. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Our Communion Offering this Sunday will support Operation 20/20. Based at Emmanuel UMC the volunteers take our old glasses and sunglasses, clean, repair, and grade them so they can be sent out with international mission teams. Then the miracles happen.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Rust College A Cappella Choir performance on Saturday, January 27, has been canceled.

Sunday the Tanzanian Mission Team will sell Sausage and Biscuits in the Fellowship Hall before Sunday School. All proceeds from the Sausage and Biscuit Breakfast will go towards sending FUMC's Mission Team to Tanzania in July.

 

Start date has been moved to January 31st.

When Salt and Light resumes, we will have a new way of collecting money for the meal. We will have a flat rate of $5 for the main meal and a flat rate of $1 for pizza.

Called Charge Conference for Candidacy of John Andrew Fisher and Dakota Hill... Please join us for a special Called Charge Conference on February 12, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Our FUMC Charge Conference will discuss and affirm our Staff-Parish Committee’s recommendation’s of John Andrew Fisher and Dakota Hill as a Candidate for Ministry in the United Methodist Church.

The Prayer Quilt Ministry will meet Wednesday, January 17 at 9 a.m. 

For 2018-2019 School Year Registration for church members will begin January 16. Registration for currently enrolled students begins on January 22.

The Dyersburg/Dyer County Unit of the Salvation Army so appreciates the members of Dyersburg First United Methodist Church who gave their time and energy to ring the bell at Kroger the weekends before Christmas. The Red Kettle drive is the primary fundraiser for the year.

We will not have Sunday School this Sunday, January 14, due to the lack of heat in parts of the church building.

Spring Break Mission Meeting coming in February!

The Rust College A’Cappella Choir will perform Saturday, January 27, at 6:30 p.m. in our sanctuary. Join us to hear this world renowned choir perform a program of beautiful and inspiring music. A love offering will be taken. 

Handbell Choir will resume on Wednesday, January 24th

Bring your canned drink tabs to the basket in the Sellers class. 

If Dyersburg City Schools are closed due to bad weather, there will be no Salt and Light. 

Now is the time to start looking at your calendar and thinking about what you have coming up this year at the church. Please don’t wait until after your group or event meets to get on the calendar.

There will be a Christmas Eve Service in the Sanctuary at 6:00 P.M. The communion offering will benefit the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund.

Third Sunday Communion for the month of December will be observed Sunday, December 17, in the chapel at 8:50 a.m. before Sunday School. 

Methodist Monday Meals’ Quarterly Meeting will be Monday, April 2 at 10:30 a.m. in the conference room.

There is a new Sunday School class in the works! It will be a College and Career class. There will be an informational meeting on Sunday, December 17th during the Sunday School hour. The meeting/class will be held in the associate pastor's office. Anyone interested is invited to attend.

Please remember to sign up to ring the bell for the Salvation Army. The sign - up sheets are on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall. If you have not already signed up, please give one hour of your time this Christmas season to support the Salvation Army to help feed and clothe our neighbors. All the proceeds go to the Salvation Army. It is because of volunteers that the Salvation Army can do so much good.

Anyone who would like to give the devotion at an Upward game half - time please contact Brandi Lemons at 731 - 571 - 1944. Folks who are interested in refereeing games should contact Patrick Lemons or Jamison Gullett. We also need 4th - 6th grade girls to register to play. Patti Lou Parker or any of the above mentioned contacts can help with this.

The Dyersburg Choral Society will present its annual Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 7th at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be held at Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 2280 Parr Ave. Dyersburg. Everyone is cordially invited to attend this free concert. 

Once again, our Mitten Trees are up and ready for your donations. Please donate gloves, hats, and/or socks in all sizes to our trees. You will find one in Fellowship Hall and another near the back of the sanctuary. Thank - you for caring and sharing with our church family, our community, and our world.

Badminton & Pickleball Beginning next Wednesday, November 29, we will play badminton and pickleball at 3:30 in the gym. 

Children’s Choir will practice from 6:00-6:30 p.m. on Monday, November 27th.

The youth will be serving Thanksgiving lunch at the Salvation Army Tuesday, November 21.  We will meet at FLC at 10:15 a.m.

Upward Evaluations for Cheer and Basketball will start on November 9 from 5 to 8 p.m.

This Sunday, November 12, immediately following the service, we are having another informational meeting for the Tanzanian Mission trip July 2018.

Senseless acts of violence, like the shooting this past Sunday in Sutherland Springs, Texas, are unfortunately becoming more common. Why are these acts of violence taking place? What can we, as the body of Christ, the Church do?
