Dear Dyersburg FUMC Family,

What a privilege and joy it is to be among you!! Thank you so much for welcoming my family and me so warmly during our transition to a new community and a new church. We have felt so loved and cared for in these past weeks, and we are so grateful. It was wonderful to finally be able to worship with you on Sunday, and to celebrate Holy Communion with you!

I would like to use this space to tell you a little bit about myself over the next few weeks. I am the only child of John Hall and Susan Lyle (Michael Lyle), both of whom live in the Nashville area. I graduated from John Overton High School in Nashville and attended DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, where I earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Business. It was at DePauw that I first experienced a distinct call to ministry. As a Peer Counselor acting as a liaison between my sorority and the University Counseling Center, I began to experience God’s call to be with others during confusing, painful, and even damaging seasons. Believing that seminary would be the best place to explore that call, I chose to attend Boston University School of Theology where I pursued a Master of Divinity with a specialization in Pastoral Care and Counseling. As my seminary experience went on, I began to sense a call to local church ministry, although it would be five more years until my first local church appointment.

All of us have a call story. Our baptism isn’t just baptism into the family of Christ, but also a baptism into Christian ministry. This is just a little bit of my call story, and I look forward to hearing each of yours.

In the grace and peace of God, Mary Beth
