Choose this day whom you will serve. “Now therefore revere the Lord, and serve Him in sincerity and in faithfulness; put away the gods that your ancestors served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. Now if you are unwilling to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:14-15
Joshua knew his time on this earth and with God’s people was coming to an end. He wanted to give them one last message of encouragement, but he also wanted to instruct them on the way to live a life that would honor God. This message still rings true to us today. Joshua’s message is simple, “Cling tightly to the Lord your God.” Our promise is this, if we will choose today to serve God, He will go before us, fight for us, provide for us, and the enemy of this world will be no match for us. However, if we serve ourselves or choose a cheap substitute for God then we will be subject to the consequences. “But if you turn away from Him and cling to the customs of the survivors of these nations remaining among you, and if you intermarry with them, then know for certain that the Lord your God will no longer drive them out of your land. Instead, they will be a snare and a trap to you, a whip for your backs and thorny brambles in your eyes, and you will vanish from this good land the Lord your God has given you.” Joshua 23:12-13. Who will we choose to serve this week?
May you and your families have a blessed week, Brian, Mary, Brylee, Holland Funderburk
