A Fisherman’s Tale

We all have or at least know someone who has a fishing story. You know the one, where the fish gets bigger each time it is told. How about a story where so many fish were caught that it filled up 2 boats! In our lectionary reading for this week we see where Jesus heads out on a boat with James, John, and Simon. The men had been fishing all day with no luck, that is until Jesus stepped in. Jesus used the need that these men had to provide a real example of what faith can do.

“For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” Luke 5:9-10 Jesus also called the men to follow Him and to take this miracle and “catch more fish(believers).” What if God did the impossible in your life this week? How can we take what God has done for us and use it to bring more people to Him? Let us be as excited as these men were and go fishing!

Have a blessed week, Brian, Mary, Brylee, Holland Funderburk
