Leadership, Worship, and Christian Covenant in 2019... With each New Year, we reach a turning point for our congregation, and especially our leadership teams. If you’ve been around our teams over the past year, or taken a close look at our church calendar, you’ve seen that our Vision Team did some good work to simplify our leadership structure. They condensed the number of teams and improved the flow of our meetings so that all of us could spend a little less time in meetings talking about ministry and more time in actually doing ministry. We should all notice these things in early 2019, especially as we talk about the role all of us as Christians play in ministry on January 6th, and then as we consecrate our leaders on Jan. 13th.
On the first Sunday of the New Year, January 6th, we will follow a very meaning-full tradition where we Renew our Wesleyan Covenant using one of the most challenging, and yet most comforting prayers a Christian could pray. There will also be a special time to “Remember your baptism,” that Sacrament which undergirds our faith in God whether the day holds challenges or comforts, or both. On the second Sunday, Jan. 13th, our Worship Team will again help us affirm those whom God has called to lead among us and to consecrate their service to Christ. As part of that service, those leaders will be serving us all in the Sacrament of Holy Communion (which means we will focus on the Sacrament of Baptism on Jan. 6th and the Sacrament of Holy Communion on Jan. 13th. We hope you and the entire family will join us for both these special times, helping us all start 2019 by focusing on God’s best for us as individuals, families, a church, community, and beyond.
Sincerely in Christ’s service: Ed, Will and the First UMC Family
