Feeling Forsaken

Our lectionary reading for the week takes us to Psalms 22. “My God, my God why have You forsaken me?” Psalm 22:1. We see the psalmist calling out to God in desperation. We also see these same words uttered by Jesus on the cross in Matthew 27.

Jesus bearing our sins on the cross was feeling the same pain that you and I feel in times of hurt, disappointment, agony, and desperation. Because He was fully divine however, Jesus was also pointing back to scripture here in the Old Testament. When you read the rest of the Psalm 22, you see the redeeming nature of the Father. Jesus in

Matthew 27 was not doubting the Father but fulfilling the promise. Just as we see David crying out in desperation in the beginning, we also see David praising God in the end. Church remember, “Weeping may spend the night, but there is joy in the morning!” Psalm 30:5

May you and your families have a blessed week, Brian, Mary, Brylee, Holland Funderburk
