Dear Dyersburg FUMC,I am so grateful for each of you and the patience you have shown as your church leaders discern our congregation’s way forward.Your Back to Worship Team has discussed ways that we might ease some of our worship protocols while still ensuring safety in our gatherings. To that end,

we have decided that, beginning next Sunday, March 7, we will no longer take temperatures at the doorand we will no longer ask that reservations be made in advance for worship. Our worship attendance has only exceeded 100 persons (the capacity of our sanctuary with social distancing limitations) on one occasion. While reservations were initially an important part of returning safely to worship, they have become a barrier to worship attendance for those who may forget to make a reservation and then choose not to attend out of concern that the sanctuary will be at capacity. We believe that we can safely gather to worship while maintaining appropriate social distancing without taking reservations for either worship service. If this changes, we will adapt appropriately. We are grateful for everyone’s compliance with temperature-taking. In the eight months that we have been taking temperatures, we have never encountered someone who came to worship while running a fever.Because it can feel intrusive to have your temperature taken and because it has not proven to create a safer worship environment, we will no longer be taking temperatures at the door.We will continue to require masks for worship for the foreseeable future, and we ask that you maintain distance between your household and other households while in the sanctuary. The Back to Worship Team will continue to discuss and monitor the situation in our community and our church regarding COVID-19 and will promptly communicate our decisions to the congregation! We are so grateful for your patience and cooperation in our life together!Mary Beth and the Back to Worship Team
