Dear Dyersburg FUMC Family,

I’m excited to share that we will be starting a new sermon series on September 13 focused on the Sermon on the Mount. Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, Professor of New Testament at Vanderbilt Divinity School, has just released a book called Sermon on the Mount: A Beginner’s Guide to the Kingdom of Heaven, which will be the basis for the sermon series.

If you want to immerse yourself more deeply in the sermon series, I invite you to order the book and follow along.

I also encourage you to consider finding creative ways for your Sunday School class and small groups to engage the book and the sermon series. Some ideas include meeting via Zoom, gathering in a space in the church that allows for adequate social distancing, meeting in a park or in an outdoor area at a restaurant, or perhaps meeting in someone’s backyard. Don’t worry about making sure your study of the book coincides directly with the sermon series. I’m also planning to teach a study on the book on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. That will also be livestreamed on Facebook and on the church webpage so that everyone can be involved whether in-person or virtual. I anticipate that beginning on Wednesday, September 23.

In case you missed the announcement, Dakota and I will be appearing on Facebook Live every Wednesday at noon from the sanctuary for a short time of prayer and meditation. This will replace the noon devotions that we had been sharing daily at first, and then every Tuesday and Thursday. I want to thank everyone again for sharing your heart and wisdom with us throughout our time of physical separation through those devotions.

If you have any questions about how to connect with your small group or Sunday School class, or if you need anything at all, please don’t hesitate to contact the church office!

Grateful to labor for the Kingdom with you, Mary Beth
