Our church has always been good at what God calls of His people to do, to be a conduit of His love to others. From Upward® Basketball to helping those in need, the FUMC family is fully engaged with our community. One of the ministries that started here at FUMC has taken on a life of its own... Mission Blitz!
Many of you will remember its first year, back in 2007, when over 200 volunteers from our church spread out into the community and completed a huge number of service projects, mission events and visits to the lonely. We touched the lives of hundreds, deepening the faith of many of our members. It made such an impact on our county that other churches took notice and soon asked to join in. Today, Mission Blitz is a community event involving over 20 local churches from multiple denominations working together as Christ’s hands and feet.
This year’s Mission Blitz will take place on Saturday, April 25 . We’re already identifying multiple projects and people ministries that will enable participation by volunteers of all ages, mobility and skill levels. A new community outreach in 2020 involves running four separate sports clinics located at Okeena Park, Bruce Community Center, Future City and Milltown. These clinics will provide opportunities for our sports minded members to minister through coaching while others can share the love of God through serving food, making balloon animals, painting faces, creating sidewalk art or even handing out t-shirts as the children finish their activities.
You’ll find sign-up sheets at the Connect Center by the Troy Street entrance and in your Sunday School classrooms. There is no cost to participate unless you want a t-shirt, which can be ordered on the sign-up sheet.
Deadline to order shirts is Sunday, March 22nd.
As always, projects will be available for groups (Sunday School classes, families, etc.) that want to work together. Feel free to call or email me with any questions.
