Mission Blitz was inspired by Matthew 25:40 where it reads, “Inasmuch as ye have done it to the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me”. In 2007, following the spirit of that verse, one of our members brought the idea of a day of service, where the church body would venture out into the local community to serve as His hands and feet. It was immediately embraced! That first year 268 church volunteers spread out into the Dyersburg area sharing God’s love through serving needy individuals and non-profits.

Other local churches took notice. By 2013, five additional congregations from various denominations joined in making Mission Blitz a true interdenominational event! As each year passes, more churches have joined. In 2016, nineteen churches participated contributing over 800 volunteers spanning multiple denominations that include Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, Episcopal, Catholic, Christian, Church of God, Church of Christ and several nondenominational congregations.

The vision of Mission Blitz is to bring area churches together to be the hands and feet of Christ throughout our community. We emphasize that as Christians we are all part of the body of Christ and together as one, He can do great things through us. We challenge every church and their members to imagine the greater impact Christ could make in our community through a united body of all of His believers.

While the project list for Mission Blitz is forever changing, many projects fall into categories that are repeated annually. These include home repairs for needy families, construction of wheel chair ramps, visiting nursing homes and providing free car care & wellness clinics. Mission Blitz also hosts numerous community events such as car washes, neighborhood block parties, vacation bible schools and family festivals all provided at no charge to area residents. Mission Blitz day always concludes with a large rally for volunteers and the community that includes live Christian music, free food, and multiple activities creating a family festival atmosphere. Originally envisioned as a one day, yearly event, Mission Blitz has now begun filling additional needs as they arise throughout the year. All 100+ local churches are invited to participate.

Projects

Projects were performed throughout the area to spruce up the homes of needy individuals, Habitat for Humanity homes and the facilities of non-profits who serve the physical and spiritual needs of our area’s residents. Many of these projects involved mixed teams of Christians from different denominations working together to share God’s love.

Acts of Kindness Coin

In 2016, we added “Acts of Kindness/Pass it On” coins to Mission Blitz. Volunteers handed out 4,500 coins throughout the course of the day to encourage others to be kind and generous and allow God to make a difference through them in someone’s life.
